Absorption and dynamics of molecular ions in storage rings

During her PhD studies Anne Pilgaard Rasmussen examined the photo-physics of molecular ions. The molecular ions studied include the chromophore of the green fluorescent protein, which is relevant for cell and molecular biology as a biomarker as well as oxygen-functionalized polycycle hydrocarbons (OPAHs) with relevance for the interstellar medium. The measurements are done in vacuum and at cryogenic temperature which provide conditions similar to that of the interstellar medium.
This new research findings contribute to the understanding of the electronic and vibrational structure of these molecular ions, and provide important benchmark data for comparison with theoretical calculations.

The PhD study was completed at Department of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
