Analysis of organic matter in the Alum Shale: Investigating of thermal intrusion and uranium radiation

PhD defence, Tuesday, 1st October 2024, Anji Liu

Anji Liu

During his PhD studies, Anji Liu investigated the complex interactions between igneous intrusion, uranium radiation and organic matter within the Alum Shale Formation in central Sweden, which experienced localized thermal intrusion during the Permian. Anji Liu studied the petrological and geological characteristics of uranium-enriched Alum Shale and uraniferous kolm nodules, aiming to establish their genetic models.

The new research findings contribute to the understanding the thermal evolution of organic-rich shales, providing new insights into the hydrocarbon system of the Alum Shale and the formation of kolm.
The PhD study was completed at Department of Geoscience, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
