During her PhD, Lise researched how to overcome methodological challenges related to tracking ultrafast structural dynamics of inorganic materials with atomistic detail. Increasing demand for inorganic materials in applications ranging from energy conversion to catalysis fuels an interest in studying the underlying structural changes that determine their useful properties. Unfortunately, the timescales of some of these processes are too short to be captured directly with current experimental methods. Thus, Lise worked on establishing two separate X-ray based techniques with the prospect of facilitating observations of ultrafast structural phenomena in a variety of scientifically relevant materials.
