Symbiosis and Defense: The Dual Role of Plant Root LysM Receptors

PhD defence, Friday 17 January 2025, Bine Simonsen

Bine Wissendorf Simonsen

During her PhD studies, Bine Simonsen researched plant LysM receptor-like kinases, which play crucial roles in both plant immunity and root nodule symbiosis with nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Bine Simonsen focused on the intracellular domains of these receptors to determine how receptors with highly similar sequences can drive opposing pathways.

Her research findings enhance understanding of the signaling pathways that lead to root nodule symbiosis, contributing to efforts aimed at utilizing this process for more sustainable agriculture.
The PhD study was completed at Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
