Investigations of magnetic anisotropy and magneto-structural correlations in single-molecule magnets
PhD defense, Tuesday 20 October 2026, Hannah Hedegaard Slavensky
During her PhD studies, Hannah Hedegaard Slavensky, researched magnetic anisotropy in single-molecule magnets through multiple-technique approaches. The coordination compounds were investigated through single-crystal X-ray diffraction and powder polarized neutron diffraction, to provide detailed determination of the size and orientation of the magnetic anisotropy. Furthermore, by investigating compounds with small structural differences, magneto-structural correlations were explored.
The research demonstrates the importance of combining complementary experimental and computational techniques for magnetic anisotropy determination and contributes to the understanding of rational design of single-molecule magnets with enhanced magnetic properties.
The PhD study was completed at Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
