The qualifying examination is typically held halfway through the PhD study programme. The exam concludes Part A of the PhD study programme, and must be passed in order to continue on Part B of the programme.
Through a progress report and an oral examination, the PhD student must demonstrate solid progress on the research project, present an ambitious and realistic plan for Part B of the PhD study programme and show an ability to communicate scientific work.
Furthermore, the qualifying examination serves the following purposes:
A notification email with practical information about procedures is sent from the PhD Partner to the PhD student and main supervisor three months before the exam.

The progress report may contain a link to supplementary material with, for instance, raw data, video clips or program code. The supplementary material must not contribute to the assessment of the progress report but solely serve as documentation for the results presented in the progress report. Filesender may be used to upload the supplementary material. Please note that the material will be available through the link for two weeks, so make sure to include an expiration date, preferably with your contact info if a new link is needed.
