Iodine contributions to new particle formation

PhD defence, Friday 30th of October 2026, Morten Engsvang

Morten Engsvang

During his PhD studies, Morten Engsvang has researched the contributions of iodine-containing molecules to new particle formation. Iodine-containing particles have been measured in polar and marine areas, but their formation process is still unclear. With the aim of incorporating their formation process into atmospheric models, Morten Engsvang has used quantum chemistry to calculate the stability of iodine-containing molecules and particles, such that their formation can be simulated from molecules to actual particles.

The PhD study was completed at Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
