Long-Range and Local Structure of Electrode Materials for Rechargeable Batteries
PhD defence, Friday 9 October 2026, Bettina Pilgaard Andersen
During her PhD studies, Bettina Pilgaard Andersen researched the structural transitions in electrode materials for rechargeable batteries with a particular focus on disorder. Today’s focus on sustainability creates a demand for electrode materials made from abundant and non-toxic elements. To understand how disorder affects the properties and performance of the electrode material, both the long-range and local structure must be characterized. Bettina Pilgaard Andersen studied the order-disorder structural transitions in layered sodium transition metal oxides and lithium vanadium phosphate for positive electrode materials in Na- and Li-ion rechargeable batteries, respectively.
The new research findings contribute to an understanding of the formation and structure of disorder in electrode materials for rechargeable batteries.
The PhD study was completed at Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
