Palladium oxidative addition complexes for radioisotope labeling
PhD defence, Friday 30th of October 2026, Daniel Vrønning Hoffmann
During his/her PhD studies, Daniel Vrønning Hoffmann researched new methods for carbon isotope labeling. The primary method studied was through palladium oxidative addition complexes, which carry the isotope-labeled carbon, originating from carbon monoxide. Daniel Vrønning Hoffmann studied how these complexes can be coupled with privileged motifs, resulting in high-yielding full incorporation of the desired carbon-14 isotope. Incorporation of both amides and esters was performed, as well as unnatural amino acids.
The new research findings contribute to the understanding of how more effective methods for carbon isotope labeling can be designed, which is an important step for the development of new drug molecules.
The PhD study was completed at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO), Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
