Applications are invited for a PhD fellowship/scholarship at Graduate School of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University, Denmark, within the Molecular Biology and Genetics programme. The position is available from February 2027 or later.
Title:
RNA modifications and RNA-binding proteins
Research area and project description:
The successful candidate will investigate how RNA modifications affect the binding of RNA-binding proteins and how these interactions change in response to nutrient availability. The project will integrate complementary approaches to identify modification-dependent RNA-binding proteins, map dynamic RNA modifications, and characterize protein-binding sites across the transcriptome.
The candidate will use and further develop the RNA interactome capture developed in the supervisor's laboratory and apply quantitative mass spectrometry approaches to identify proteins that interact with RNA in a modification-dependent manner.
The project will investigate how RNA modification patterns change as response to nutrient availability and how these changes relate to alterations in gene expression and RNA activity. As part of this, the candidate will use quantitative sequencing-based approaches to map modified nucleotides across mRNAs and long non-coding RNAs.
The project will provide new insight into how RNA modifications shape RNA-protein interaction networks and how these networks influence cells dependent on nutrient availability.
