A Song of Fabrication and Spectroscopy: A Game of Twisted Graphene

PhD defence, Monday, November 4th, 2024, Zhihao Jiang

Zhihao Jiang

During his PhD studies, Zhihao Jiang explored the electronic properties of twisted graphene heterostructures, which are created by stacking graphene layers at specific twist angles to produce unique electronic behaviors, including superconductivity. He investigated fabrication techniques for van der Waals heterostructures, focusing on the precise assembly of twisted bilayer and double bilayer graphene. Using microARPES, he analyzed their electronic structures under various conditions, uncovering tunable minibands, hybridization gaps, flat bands, and enhanced electron-electron interactions.

These new research findings deepen the understanding of tunable electronic structures in twisted graphene systems, providing valuable insights into fundamental questions such as superconductivity.

The PhD study was completed at Department of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
