Analysis of the insulin receptor – understanding the conformational landscape
PhD defence, Tuesday, 19th November 2024, Amanda Dyrholm Stange
During her studies, Amanda investigated the molecular dynamics of the insulin receptor (IR), a key protein in regulating blood sugar levels. She explored how different insulin binding sites influence the receptor’s stability and activation, with a focus on a specific site that plays a critical role.
Her research revealed that when insulin binds to this particular site, it significantly stabilizes the receptor, which is essential for its proper function. These findings enhance our understanding of the insulin receptor’s operation and could lead to improved treatments for diabetes by targeting these crucial interactions.
The PhD study was completed at Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
