Open SDC PhD call with focus on: Climate and Energy, Environment and water, and Health

Applications are invited for a PhD fellowship/scholarship at Graduate School of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University, Denmark, within the Chemistry programme. The position is available from November 2026 or later. 

 

Title:
Open SDC PhD call with focus on: Climate and Energy, Environment and water, and Health

Research area and project description:
This is an open PhD call where we are looking for PhD candidates with expertise and interest in nanoscience and nanotechnology in general with focus on applications in one or more of the following areas: 

- Climate and Energy 

- Environment and water

- Health

Following the initial screening, selected candidates will be approached and matched with potential supervisors and/or projects. Alternatively, the applicants can include a project draft and a potential supervisor to the application. 

The expertise of the applicant has to be clearly outlined in the motivation letter including the preference of the above-mentioned themes.
 
The applicant is required to do research for 1 year in a collaborative research laboratory in China as part of the university partnership Denmark-China (https://sdc.university/). 

The PhD start date is November 2026 or shortly after.

Qualifications and specific competences:
Applicants must have a relevant Master’s degree in Nanoscience/technology or a related field.

Good written and oral English skills.

Other eligibility criteria from the SDC scheme might apply.

Place of employment and place of work:
The place of employment is Aarhus University, and the place of work is Department of Chemistry, Langelandsgade 140, 8000 Aarhus C, Denmark.  

Please be aware, that the PhD project involves funding from Sino Danish Center/SDC, and it is therefore required that: 

  • the PhD student must spend time in a Chinese research environment. The specific period depends on the funding model.
  • PhD students funded by the Danish SDC office are expected to contribute to the educational activities on the SDC Master's programmes in Beijing during their stay in China.
