HCI PhD Position on Multimodal Collaborative Hybrid Spaces

Applications are invited for a PhD fellowship/scholarship at Graduate School of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University, Denmark, within the Computer Science programme. The position is available from May 2025 or later.

Title:
HCI PhD Position on Multimodal Collaborative Hybrid Spaces

Research area and project description:
In the MACHS project, we aim to enable hybrid collaboration that is as productive and innovative as face-to-face collaboration. We will do this by creating novel interactive multimodal technologies to support hybrid work. Hybrid work involves several co-located participants engaged in coordinated work with remote participants.

The PhD student will design and develop artefacts and processes to support organizations in exploring and preparing for successful collaboration in the future. In particular, we will focus on augmenting hybrid collaboration through tangible, multimodal prototypes. These prototypes will utilize, and support transition between, the full spectrum of modalities in human communication (visual, speech, non-speech audio, cutaneous and kinesthetic haptics) for more than basic meetings.
