A triangulated category is an important type of a mathematical environment in which algebraic structures exist and interact. The information contained in a triangulated category provides us with insights on properties, identities, or approximations of other mathematical objects. In his Ph.D. thesis, Cyril Matoušek studied a procedure of a construction of a new triangulated category known as metric completion. A triangulated category can possess many different metrics each yielding a different completion. Cyril Matoušek’s work presents several classification results on how metrics and the corresponding completions look like for triangulated categories arising in derived representation theory of finite dimensional algebras and commutative rings.

The PhD study was completed at Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
